A special thanks to Chief Master Minton, Master Skiles and of course the incredibly talented Mike Chat for the amazing training! Koby received a $1500 Regional Scholarship through ATA's H.U. Lee Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Koby will be attending Berry College this Fall!

Weekend Advancement Camp

Canton ATA Martial Arts hosted a weekend training camp for our students on July 23rd & 24th. We had 32 students attend our martial arts camp! We trained Fitness, Standing Self-Defense, Ground Self-Defense, Sparring, and Combat Weapons!! It was a very fun and rewarding camp for all of those who attended. For all of their hard work and effort during camp, each student was promoted to their next belt! Here are some pics of all the hard work:

NEW WORLD CHAMPION!!!!



Mr. Murphy - 5th Degree Black Belt, owner and Chief Instructor at Canton ATA Martial Arts - has just become the 2010 World Champion in Forms - AND - the Silver Medalist in the Sparring competition!

I am very proud of these accomplishments, appreciative of the support from all of our students/families, and I cannot wait to get back to Canton and celebrate this with everyone!

Congratulations Mr. Ross Chamberlain and Mr. Cody Smith!

Mr. Ross Chamberlain - 1st Degree Black Belt - competed in the World Championships competition on Friday, June 25th for the title of World Champion in Sparring!!! He lost in the quarterfinals, but had an amazing year just to earn a spot in the World Top Ten!!! We are very proud of your accomplishment!

Mr. Cody Smith - 3rd Degree Black Belt - also competed for the title of World Champion in Sparring!!! Mr. Smith got off to a very quick start to the first round and took an early lead, but eventually lost that match to a very tough opponent. Again, we are very proud of the accomplishment of earning a spot in the World Top Ten and having the opportunity to compete for the Championship title!!!

Congratulations Tom LaCaruba!


Tom LaCaruba - Officer for the Cobb County Police and Canton ATA Martial Arts' newest 1st Degree Black Belt! Mr. LaCaruba started his training with us about 2 years ago, has trained hard and steadily during this time period, and earned his Black Belt just a week ago. As young as Canton ATA Martial Arts is, Tom is only the 3rd student to begin training with Mr. Murphy and earn his Black Belt, and he's the first adult student to do so. Congratulations Tom, and let's continue our training for the next level!

Future World Champions?!


We are proud to announce that Canton ATA Martial Arts has 3 students/instructors who have earned the honor of being invited to compete for the World Champion title at the end of this month! Here are they are and the divisions in which they will compete:

Mr. Ross Chamberlain - Men 1st Degree Black Belts - 50-59 Years Old: Sparring

Mr. Cody Smith - Boys 2nd & 3rd Degree Black Belts - 11-13 Years Old: Sparring

Mr. Scott Murphy - Men 4th & 5th Degree Black Belts - 30-39 Years Old: Forms & Sparring

Congratulations on receiving this invitation to compete. There are only 9 other people in your division (IN THE WORLD) who have earned the same honor. So let's continue training hard for a few more weeks! If you see these students in class, make sure you push them hard, don't let them quit when they get tired, and stay positive. It's tough to train at this level for so long, but let's all do our part to make them finish strong!

GBI Missing Kids Day

Canton ATA Martial Arts was invited to participate in the GBI's Missing Kids Day over the weekend. Mr. Murphy went with Mr. Cody Smith and set up a booth at the event. Rather than doing demonstrations for everyone to watch, we set up several stations for the kids to participate in self-defense techniques. Everyone had a blast, and we are proud to have been a part of such a positive event for Atlanta's youth! Here's a few pics from the event:

Open House 2010 was GREAT!



We had a blast last Saturday at our 2nd Annual Open House! We had FREE workouts for the community, FREE food (always a favorite!), and a Bounce House for everyone while waiting for the next workout to begin! There were many members of our community who attended, and we greatly appreciate all of you giving up a few hours on such a great Saturday to spend with us.
We had a workout beginning on the hour, every hour throughout the day. Each workout had a different theme: New Techniques for New Members, Kidz N Power (Personal Safety), ATAFit (Personal Fitness), and Qualities of a Leader!
Special thanks to all of our members who showed up and helped out during the day! And a very special thanks to Mr. Raymond Smith for making sure we were all fed during the day!!

Augusta Tournament Results

The ATA Martial Arts school in Evans, GA, owned by Mr. Darin Prazer and Mrs. Gena Prazer, just hosted a tournament in Augusta. Canton ATA Martial Arts had 2 instructors and 21 students compete in this event. The instructors and staff are proud of our students efforts and accomplishments in this event. Quick note: tournaments are not required for our students to advance in rank, but are an opportunity to compete against other ATA students and gain a new perspective of their own abilities. One of the ultimate results is a boost in a student's confidence and motivation as a result of a positive experience at a tournament!

World Championships Tournament


The ATA is hosting the World Championships Tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas during the week of June 21-27. This tournament is open to all ATA students! If you are a Leadership student and you are interested in competing for a State Championship Title or a Black Belt interested in competing for a World Championship Title, this is a great tournament to attend! You will earn triple points for any competition event in which earn a First, Second, or Third place trophy!
Also at this event, we will have 2 or 3 people from our school competing for the title of World Champion in their divisions for 2009-2010! Mr. Ross Chamberlain (Adult 1st Degree Black Belt) will be competing for the Sparring World Champion Title! Mr. Cody Smith (Junior 3rd Degree Black Belt) will possibly be competing for the Sparring World Champion Title! Mr. Scott Murphy (5th Degree Black Belt) will be competing for the Forms World Champion Title and possibly the Sparring World Champion Title!
ATA World Championships will also host a high-rank Black Belt testing where Black Belts from across the nation will be completing mid-term testing requirements or testing for their next degree of Black Belt!
Also taking place at this huge event will be a fundraising gala for the H.U. Lee Foundation Scholarship program. The theme for this year's gala is "An Evening in Casablanca". All proceeds from this event will be given to the scholarship program to assist graduating seniors in furthering their education!

Spring Nationals Results!


The ATA hosted our Spring Nationals tournament in Las Vegas, NV this past weekend. There were Taekwondo students from all over the United States and Canada that competed. Canton ATA Martial Arts had 2 students travel and compete at this tournament.

Mr. Ross Chamberlain (1st Degree Black Belt Adult), competed and earned FIRST PLACE in SPARRING! Congratulations, Sir.

Mr. Cody Smith (3rd Degree Black Belt Junior), competed and earned FIRST PLACE in FORMS and SECOND PLACE in SPARRING! Congratulations, Sir.

Mr. Murphy (5th Degree Black Belt) competed and earned FIRST PLACE in FORMS. Mr. Murphy also completed a training seminar in Combat Weapons Sparring. Black Belts, beware! We'll be introducting some new training this summer!

Congratulations to our competitors again. They represented our academy very well, not just because they won medals, but because of their positive attitudes and sportmanship!

Congratulations Koby Boatright!

One of our longest training students, Koby Boatright, was just awarded the Presidential Scholarship to Berry College in Rome, GA. The Presidential Scholarship covers his tuition for education if he chooses to attend Berry. Koby has also applied to several of the Ivy League schools. He has chosen to major in Psychology.


Koby is a 2nd Degree Black Belt, and he will be testing for his 3rd Degree in April. We wish him the best of luck in choosing his school for college and all his training in Taekwondo.


Again, Congratulations! You have set a great example for our younger students to follow.

Kidz 'N Power Seminar Highlights

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped out in our 1st ever Kidz 'N Power seminar. It was a blast. We had current Taekwondo students as well as families from the community who are not connected with our academy yet. Rank Advancement Camp!!

We just hosted our 2nd annual Rank Advancement Camp! 3 hours of martial arts training, 5 days this week! The training included Ultimate Kickboxing Drills, ATA X-Treme Weapons, Fitness Kicking Drills (over 2500 kicks this week!), and Integrated Martial Arts Training (combination of kickboxing, judo, and jiu-jitsu). We worked hard and sweat harder! I'm very proud of the effort everyone showed during camp, and look foward to doing it again in the future!

CANTON SAFETY DAY!




Just another reminder...this event is FREE to the entire community. All of our students are welcome to bring friends with them. If you don't know anyone who trains here, please come meet us and enjoy the festivities!

Along with everything mentioned above, each family will receive a FREE DVD package with safety information for parents on protecting your family at home and while you are away! All you have to do to receive this offer is show up on Saturday, February 27th!

Hello everyone. Here are our upcoming events. Please make sure you call or come to class for more details on these exciting events:

February 6 (Saturday) - Tournament in Atlanta, GA at the Cobb Galleria.

February 13 (Saturday) - Parent's Night Out - 5PM-9Pm at Canton ATA Martial Arts. We'll have games, pizza, movies, and FUN! Students are welcome to bring friends with them to this event!

February 15-19 (Monday - Friday) - Rank Advancement Camp. For Canton ATA Martial Arts members only. 5 days of pure workout! 3 hours each day! Fun & exciting curriculum that we don't learn within our regular curriculum. Friday, as long as you've earned it, all camp attendees will be promoted to their next rank! And you can still attend graduation on Saturday for the next rank! You can be promoted twice in one week!

February 20 (Saturday) - Belt Graduation

February 20 (Saturday) - Black Belt Ceremony. For all students who earned their black belt or another degree of black belt in 2009!

February 27 (Saturday) - Community Safety Day - FREE for everyone in the community. Canton ATA Martial Arts members...Please bring friends! We have guests lined up from the Canton Police & Fire Departments, food & games, self-defense workouts, FREE Safety DVD's for every family, and FREE Child ID Kits for every child in attendance! Begins at 11am.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all Canton ATA Martial Arts students and families! We're excited to be back in action and bringing a lot of new things to the program for 2010. Just a couple of things to be on the lookout for:

FREE WEAPONS CAMP: Monday, January 18th. This a school holiday for Cherokee County, so let's workout together at the school that day. From 9am - 12Noon. Make sure you bring your BME.

ATLANTA TOURNAMENT: Saturday, February 6th. This is open to all of students. If you're interested in attending, make sure you train in our Tournament class on Fridays at 4:30. See one of our instructors for more information on getting signed up!

MOMMY/DADDY AND ME Class: We are beginning a new class in February for 18 Months to 3 Years to come in and train with a parent. If you are interested, please see on of our instructors for more information.

WARRIOR X-FIT: Another of our new programs coming this year is a fitness-oriented class called Warrior X-Fit. This is a tough, sweat-enducing workout that is sure to get your heart rate up and tone your body!

It's great to see everyone back in class and get started on our new training!
